To meet future air traffic growth, the Airport Authority (AA) has been planning to expand Hong Kong International Airport (HKIA) into a three-runway system (3RS). This website provides latest updates of the 3RS, as well as information on the background, public engagement efforts and publications related to the project.
On 17 March 2015, the Executive Council affirmed the need to have the 3RS so as to maintain Hong Kong's competitiveness as a global and regional aviation hub, as well as to cater to the city's long-term economic and development needs. On 8 May 2015, the Lands Department issued a Government Notice for the reclamation works of HKIA’s expansion into a 3RS. In addition, the Town Planning Board issued a Government Notice announcing the amendments to the approved Chek Lap Kok Outline Zoning Plan. In accordance with the requirements of the Environmental Permit, environmental monitoring data and related project information of the 3RS are available for public access at a separate dedicated website.
